In January, we held a workshop with nearly 40 wildlife practitioners from Latin America, the US and Europe to get a first look at the new Wildlife Insights platform. Thanks to the Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute for generously hosting this event.
This workshop follows up from one held in Brazil last June. There, the Wildlife Insights team asked protected area stakeholders, NGOs, and government representatives what features were most important for them to manage, analyze and share camera trap data.
Many participants returned this year, with a few new faces, to test the prototype and verify that Wildlife Insights is on track to provide the best all-in one solution for camera trap data.
This first prototype showcased some of Wildlife Insights' exciting new features, including the automatic identification tool, which uses artificial intelligence to tell us whether or not an animal is in an image and what species is in a photo - in just a few seconds!
Participants loved that they could easily favorite images, edit images to help with identification, and see a quick overview of all their projects in one place.
One of the most exciting upcoming features is the ability to explore other projects. People are really excited for the potential collaborations that could result from all of this data in one centralized location!
We also discussed how Wildlife Insights and IUCN's Green List can collaborate to promote evidence-based wildlife conservation and a robust evaluation of protected area effectiveness.
Now, the Wildlife Insights team is busy incorporating feedback from workshop participants to make the platform fast, intuitive and filled with the features you need. Stay tuned in the next couple of months for more updates!
